TUB TO WALK-SHOWER CONVERSION & TILE CONTRACTOR
#1 TOP TREND in BATHROOM REMODELING is BATHTUB to SHOWER CONVERSION!!
Today's busy lifestyle has changed the way people are renovating their bathrooms when it's time for an update.
A few of the reasons for the change from a bathtub to a walk-in shower.
#1 Fast pace lifestyle lends to the convenience of a speedy in and out shower to quickly move on to the days' activity.
#2 Aging population makes planning ahead for an easier entrance that a walk-in shower provides without the need to be stepping over a tub ledge to take a shower.
#3 Contemporary/Practical Design Many customers that I have spoken with have mentioned another reason for getting rid of the tub especially in the master bathroom - Open Space
#4 SPACE Some clients are locked into the existing space of their bathroom for various reasons. Such as a closet they do not want to relinquish or water closet or some other structural concerns.
Some are concerned that removing a tub from the master will make a dent in the resale value of the home. Realistically most of today's homes have a 2nd or 3rd bathroom one of which always has a tub.
Also, something to think about is a tub to shower conversion will provide an enlarged shower that can provide a bench and for real relaxing pleasure a steam generator for the ultimate stress relief along with a steam shower/steam room health benefits which add to the resale value.
Old tile is removed and makes ready for the tub removal which is the next step. Once we remove the tub the drain is centered for the new walk-in shower.
The tile backer wallboard is installed. Waterproofing is already factory attached. all of the seams are sealed with Schluter-Kerdi band.
A recessed shampoo niche is installed and sealed, and tiled. Porcelain tile is set in a brick off-set pattern.
The back of the recessed niche is tiled with the same tile that is installed on the shower floor.
The tile backer board comes with the waterproofing already installed at the factory. Only the inside corners and seams need to be sealed.
This porcelain tile is an excellent selection. It is non-porous and low maintenance which makes it easy to keep it clean
With the tub out and the wallboard up. The shower drain is centered and floor underlayment is installed.
The new Schluter ABS shower is installed and the drypack mud is floated to the shower floor underlayment.
Once the shower pan cement has had enough time to be fully cured the waterproofing can be installed.
The Kerdi membrane installation is attached with thinset and the air and any excess thin set is smoothed out out the seams for a water tight seal.
Natural pebble stone tile was selected for the shower pan installation and offers real reflexology massage for the bare feet. an added feature!
The shower is grouted with Mapei Ultracolor FA the leading grout of choice with tile installers. This grout never needs to be sealed and is colorfast and mold and stain resistant
This tub-to-shower conversion is a good example of the modern family lifestyle that is the leading trend in bathroom remodeling design.
Years ago a jetted soaking tub in the bathroom was a luxury. To make the point this is not the master bathroom. This is a basement bathroom that was finished years ago after the purchase.
This home was recently purchased and the bathroom was updated with a luxury steam shower. With room for the entire family.
Instead, of the cramped configuration of this basement bathroom, The bathroom renovation included a tub to shower conversion
with a large L-shaped shower bench and Thermasol steam generator.
For a steam shower, this size the glass door enclosure needs to be custom made. The glass company used for the installation is Petersen Glass
Another feature is the selection of porcelain tile for the steam shower installation which makes for a more efficient steam shower by retaining the heat better than a natural stone tile.
Porcelain tile is the top choice for shower and bathroom installations regardless if it is a steam shower or not.
Metal edging is by Schluter and matches plumbing a door finishes.
