ABOUT A STEAM SHOWER INSTALLATION
SOME THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND -
Many people have included in their budget for steam shower installation during home renovations for the purpose of stress relief and health benefits that a steam shower can provide. As a result, numerous people have made steam showers a priority during the redesign of an existing bathroom.
WHAT STEAM UNIT SHOULD I PURCHASE? - Do your research before making your selection. Some people want a steam shower for their bathroom but purchase a substandard unit, and are then unable to use it when it stops working until it can be fixed. While the problem may be able to be resolved, finding the right repair technician is another matter. Some Steam Generator Options to consider - THERMASOL - STEAMIST
WILL A WINDOW WORK IN A STEAM SHOWER? - Yes, you can do that as long as your window has a double-pane design. Most newer homes have double-paned windows which do not allow heat to escape and cold to pass in.
IS INSULATION OF THE STEAM SHOWER NECESSARY? - The answer for this is yes, especially when the walls or ceilings are exterior surfaces. Insulation will keep the heat in the shower and prevent it from escaping to the exterior while preventing the chance of a chill creeping in.
WHAT ABOUT A SMALL SHOWER, CAN A BENCH BE BUILT? - For a comfortable steamer experience, you should be able to sit down and relax. It is possible to have either a corner seat or a folding seat that can be placed on the wall to save space. Another option would be a teak bench which can be placed in the shower when using the steam option.
An exceptionally cool steam shower custom made for your home can have a recessed shower niche and shower rack, raised shower bench, handheld shower head.
Build your custom steam shower and protect it from water damage by waterproofing it with a waterproof membrane and porcelain tile installation from a professional tile installer.
As a local company with over forty years of experience in the steam shower industry and superb references, we are able to provide you the most effective and efficient steam shower installation services available in the market.
A custom steam shower installation begins with removing the existing walls and floor from the existing shower and taking it directly down to the framing structure and subfloor.
It is possible to install the steam shower units in an adjacent closet to the shower, or you can even install the steam unit inside the shower and build a bench to hold it.
Covering the shower with a tile backer board (cement board) is a solid method since the waterproofing can be used on nearly any surface.
All areas of the steam shower are protected with a sealed Schluter Kerdi waterproof membrane in order to ensure that it has sufficient protection.
Before the application of the cement pour, a thinset solution is applied to the Durrock underlayment. This thinset will form a tight bond with the cement pan
In order to produce a proper drainage system and ensure the best possible control, the cement poured pans should be troweled with dry pack mud at a ratio of 1/4" per ft.
Before the tile is directly installed on top of the shower pan membrane, we will fill water into the pans to test them for leaks.
After the Schluter/Kerdi shower is installed, the next step is to install the tile directly to the shower pan.
As part of the tile installation process, the tile installer normally starts with the walls and ceiling as the tile installer prepares for the shower pan to be tiled last to allow for the cement to cure properly.
The steam unit is housed within a custom shower bench that measures 36 inches in height and has a recess niche that will accept soap and shampoo bottles.
STEAM SHOWER FACTS:
Installing a steam shower to avoid uncomfortable cooler temperatures near the floor, the ideal height is 7 feet with the maximum height at 8 feet. The ceiling should slope at least 1/4" per foot.
If the steam shower's height is higher than 8 feet, a circulation system will be necessary for even heat distribution.
TILE INSTALLATION for STEAM ROOMS & STEAM SHOWERS
Despite the fact that virtually all types of tiles can be used for the installation of a steam shower or steam room, the heat efficiency of each tile type varies depending on the size of the steam shower or steam room and the steam generator that you are planning to install for your bathroom installation project.
A quality porcelain tile is the best type of nonporous tile for retaining heat. Ceramic and glass tiles are also viable options, natural stone tiles can be used but they require more maintenance, especially sealing every year or two depending on how often they are used. However, the issue with natural stone is that it can grow mold so routine cleaning is also important. However, for an extra-large steam room or steam shower that may last for years, it might be best to choose a non-porous tile.
We installed a porcelain wall tile of size 12x24 that was installed in a straight course with grout lines and set horizontally. The ceiling and shower floor are also covered with natural stone tiles. It should be noted that because of the small size of the steam shower, stone tiles mostly on the ceiling and floor have little effect on the efficiency of the steam generator, whereas having a larger steam shower could have a negative impact on it.
The tile installation and remodeling experts at Action Shower Pan & Steam Shower Company have more than 40 years of experience installing tiles. No matter what option you choose for your steam room or steam shower installation, we will accomplish the task, waterproofing and installing all surfaces and details to make sure what's left is perfect.
