This shower pan was leaking downstairs through the kitchen ceiling. It had been repaired but the repair lasted only about 6 months.

It looked like the repair was made trying to be non-invasive. They opened up the kitchen ceiling below to get to the pan from underneath. I was a good try that didn't work.

The homeowners did a great job of locating a tile that would work. This master bathroom was tiled in hard to find marble and the homeowners came up with a really good solution. Big savings!!

Porcelain Shower Pan #1

This shower repair went about as smooth at it gets. The homeowners had left over wall tile which was neutral so that any tile would work for the shower pan. The existing tile was removed to the studs and substrate. New cement cement board is installed.

The new Schluter shower drain is installed and the cement is poured using dry pack cement that is sloped at 1/4" p/ft towards the drain.

The new shower pan is water tested before any tile is set on the pan. its better to be safe then sorry. The Schluter-Kerdi waterproofing membrane is top of the industry in dependability.

The porcelain penny tile ended up looking better then what was in before. Sorry no picture of what was there before.

This shower pan had been repaired twice before I was hired to take on this project. In these cases it's best just to get down to the studs and start all over from scratch.

We changed the shower drain and installed a new Schluter drain and installed cement board to the floor and walls. Cement was poured with dry pack and allowed to cure for at least 72 hours. The membrane is installed and the pan is tested making sure there are no leaks.

The steam shower wall tile is a white ceramic tile and there was no problem matching what was there. The shower pan tile is a natural stone basket weave pattern tile that finished the project off.

This DIY project looked really good. I liked the porcelain tile however the shower pan had developed a leak to the point that the shower could no longer be used.

When we cut back the tile we try to cut the bottom roll if possible so that when we put it back together it looks as though there was no repair at all. The finish picture is the feature pic on the page.

The shower pan had been leaking downstairs and had been unused for some time. With these types of pans the weak area is around the drain.

Schluter-Kerdi is always my #1 choice for a water tight no leak shower pan installation. The pan is filled with water and inspected for leaks.

SHOWER PAN REPAIR SERVICE

There are many reasons that a shower pan fails and starts to leak. Mostly it is due to improper installation especially when rubber or PVC shower pan liners are concerned. 97% of all shower pans that we repair/replace are due to the installer errors.

Sometimes the shower pans are not rolled up the walls or the pan liners are cut. The shower drains are critical to seal properly. It doesn't take much for a pan liner to start leaking so it is vital that the tile installer run a water test of the shower pan installation.

Without this water test, the installer risks a shower pan repair failing sometimes rather quickly other times it may take months before the water leak is detected.

The key to a successful shower pan repair is to match the existing tile for a seamless transition from old install to new install of the shower pan repair. That is if the tile is still available.
